Applied Mathematics

The Applied Mathematics syllabus is designed to develop students’ ability to model and solve real-world problems using mathematical concepts and techniques. It emphasizes the application of mathematics in diverse fields such as economics, engineering, computing, and the natural and social sciences.

The syllabus integrates elements of statistics, discrete mathematics, mechanics, and probability, aligning with STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) principles.

This course is ideal for students who are interested in applying mathematical reasoning to practical situations and who wish to pursue careers or further education in fields that require strong analytical and quantitative skills.

Prerequisites of the Syllabus

To undertake this syllabus, students should have:

  • A good grasp of the CSEC® Mathematics syllabus or an equivalent qualification.
  • A good foundation in CSEC® Additional Mathematics is highly recommended.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills to articulate mathematical reasoning effectively.

Syllabus Structure

The syllabus is divided into two Units, each comprising three Modules:

Unit 1: Statistical Analysis

Module 1

Collecting and Describing Data

Module 2

Managing Uncertainty

Module 3

Analysing and Interpreting Data

Unit 2: Mathematical Applications

Module 1
